GNOME Commander 1.6.0 Two-Pane Graphical File Manager Brings Many New Features

To celebrate GNOME 3.22’s launch, Uwe Scholz, developer of the open-source GNOME Commander two-pane graphical file manager designed for the GNOME desktop environment, announced today, October 4, 2016, the release of GNOME Commander 1.6.0.

GNOME Commander 1.6.0 is a major update to the file manager application engineered to look and feel like the popular Total Commander software for Microsoft Windows operating systems, and it brings a large number of new features, under the hood improvements, as well as dozens of bug fixes and updated translations.

Prominent new features of GNOME Commander 1.6.0 include the availability of a configurable command that lets users send files to a certain app, support for displaying notification icons in the “Open With” popup menu, as well as the ability to add more than one file simultaneously when using the “Edit files” button.
