Wireshark 2.2.2 Network Protocol Analyzer Brings over 30 Security and Bug Fixes

A new maintenance update for the world’s most popular network protocol analyzer, Wireshark, an open-source and cross-platform software used for network troubleshooting, development, and analysis, arrived today, November 17, 2016.

Wireshark 2.2.2 is here one and a half months after the first point release for the 2.2 series of the applications, bringing over 30 security and bug fixes. First of all, it attempts to fix a bunch of vulnerability and crashes reported by users from version 2.2.1, such as a Profinet I/O long loop problem, crash in OpenFlow, AllJoyn, and DCERPC, as well as a DTN infinite loop issue.

Attached at the end of the article, is a list of all the bug fixes that landed in the Wireshark 2.2.2 update for the tech-savvy reader. They should improve the overall stability and reliability of the application on all supported platforms, and it also repairs the Windows PortableApps packages, which were susceptible to a DLL hijacking flaw.
