Calibre 2.83 Open-Source Ebook Manager Improves PDF and DOCX Output, Fixes Bugs

After a well-deserved break of almost a month, Calibre developer Kovid Goyal announced this past weekend the immediate availability for download of Calibre 2.83 maintenance update to the open-source ebook management library app.

While not containing any new features per se, the Calibre 2.83 update is here to improve various of the built-in functionalities, such as the PDF Output, which now defaults to generating PDF documents that have a page size of letter instead of fetching the size of the page from the output profile.

“This avoids user confusion/bug reports about PDF Output having “too large fonts”. There is a new option “Use profile size” to have the conversion use the output profile page size instead,” explains the developer in the release announcement for Calibre 2.83.

Separate, PDF and DOCX page margin settings were implemented as well to override the standard ones, which appear to be useful due to the fact … (read more)
