Proxmox VE 5.0 to Be Based on the Great Debian GNU/Linux 9 "Stretch," Linux 4.10

Martin Maurer, the Proxmox VE (Virtual Environment) project leader, announced the release and immediate availability for download of the first Beta of the upcoming Proxmox VE 5.0 series of the Debian-based operating system.

Proxmox VE 5.0 will be the next major release of the GNU/Linux distribution designed for small and medium-sized business that want to run virtual appliances and containers, and this first Beta milestone is here to show us the progress the team made so far. It will be based on Debian GNU/Linux 9 “Stretch” and Linux kernel 4.10.

“With the first Beta, we invite you to test your hardware and your upgrade path. The underlying Debian Stretch is already in good shape, and the 4.10 kernel performs outstandingly well. The 4.10 kernel, for example, allows running a Windows 2016 Hyper-V as a guest OS (nested virtualization),” reads the announcement.
