It’s been more than a year since Yann Le Doaré released version 2.4 of his independently developed LinuxConsole gaming distribution, and now a new release makes its way to users’ computers.

Yes, that’s right, LinuxConsole 2.5 is finally here, after being in development for the past 14 months. It ships with modern GNU/Linux technologies and open source software/games (see below for a details list), as well as with both the LXDE and MATE desktop environments.

“This release is designed to be used with children and kids. It’s easy to install it on old computers with the Windows Installer, a lot of games and music software are available for use,” reads the announcement. “Both releases boots with BusyBox 1.24.2. Core software and libraries are stored into a SquashFS file system.”

Under the hood, LinuxConsole 2.5 is powered by Linux kernel 4.4.19 LTS for the 64-bit edition, which makes use of the MATE 1.2 desktop environment and… (read more)
