On November 8, 2016, Michael Tremer from the IPFire project, an open source initiative trying to produce a hardened, professional, secure, and easy-to-use Linux-based firewall operating system, announced the release of IPFire 2.19 Core Update 107.

IPFire 2.19 Core Update 107 is the latest, most stable and advanced version of the IPFire 2.19 series, and it looks like it finally patches that nasty “Dirty COW” Linux kernel vulnerability that was fixed by Linus Torvalds himself a while ago in all supported Linux kernel branches.

“This update patches the IPFire Linux kernel against a recently disclosed vulnerability called Dirty COW. This is a local privilege escalation bug which could be used by a local attacker to gain root privileges,” said Michael Tremer in the release announcement for the IPFire 2.19 Core Update 107 update.
